This is the Playstation 5 HD Camera, an accessory for the console that will release on November 12, 2020 alongside the console. The price is $59.99 USD and $79.99 CAD. It is expected to release in all regions that the console is to be launched within.
This special video option will feature dual 1080p lenses for gamers in order to broadcast themselves along with their epic gameplay moments. It appears to be focused on providing streamers or content creators with an easy going camera option on the platform to fuel creativity. It might also have additional features and integrations that are to be announced down the road.
This appears to either sit flat on a table, or to attach to the top of one’s TV using a special backing area. It is small in design, but also carries the same aesthetic of the console design. That being a blackened grey area for the actual lens housing, and then a white spot at the back. This will make it somewhat stick out from TV screens since all modern bezels are black in design.
It is interesting that 1080p is being targeted as opposed to 4k considering the push of that resolution on the platform. There is no current note if it supports 60fps, with 30fps generally being a baseline for cameras of this type. Again, not quite the smooth FPS that the platform is aiming to provide in terms of fluidity.
