At the digital CES 2021, during the Samsung First Look event the company has introduced a number of sustainable features to help with their impact on the environment. They also went further in providing more accessibility options for their TVs going forward.
The first of their goals is to reduce their carbon footprint and to improve their energy efficiency. The goal is lower power consumption and more recycled materials across their TV line-up. This starts with sustainable packaging designs, or well “eco-packaging”.
With this they’re upcycling up to 200,000 tons of corrugated boxes each year. They’ve removed the graphic imagery and gone for clean basic boxes. Past that, the Samsung Solar Cell Remote control. Starting in 2021, the TVs will come with a solar powered remote that can be recharged by indoor light, outdoor light or USB.
There are a pile of new accessibility features with upcoming 2021 QLED and Neo GLED models. This includes caption moving, sign language zoom and multi-output audio. This will provide assistance to those hard of hearing, the deaf and those with low vision. Voice guide is being expanded upon as well for 2022.
JH Han, President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics. “Our commitment to an inclusive and sustainable future goes hand-in-hand with our relentless pursuit for innovation to meet consumers’ ever-changing needs – from reducing the carbon footprint of our products, to providing a suite of accessibility features, to offering an unparalleled viewing experience that fits each user’s lifestyle.”
