Stranded Deep Console Release Might Not Happen

It looks as though the Stranded Deep console release might not happen, at least not when it's supposed to. This is due to the sudden and surprise closure of Telltale Games. It might sound odd, but there's certainly a ripple effect with the closure of the group as they did handle publishing for some titles.

One of their published ports was set to be Stranded Deep for Xbox One and Playstation 4 consoles. The game was set to release on October 9, 2018 (Xbox One date) and now that might not happen. Apparently, the studio behind the game has no idea what's going on. As of September 25, 2018 they haven't been given any update on the situation surrounding their title. They are focused on getting it released. For context, Stranded Deep is a survival game set in the Pacific Ocean. Stranded Deep Xbox Screenshot
This is part of the statement on Twitter, "Unfortunately, we still don't have any news on the status of SD's console release". This follows an earlier posting "We're actively gathering info in light of the recent announcements from Telltale." This is surprising as they would have been in good contact prior to the closure in regards to Telltale publishing their title. It's a very interesting situation, and we'll cover the development of it.

For now, it's most likely best to cancel your pre-order as that has apparently already been happening automatically on Playstation 4. Hopefully the game does release in some form on consoles in the near future, we'll have to wait and see on the details. Keep in mind that contracts may prevent the release for some time and there are no solid details on where certain licenses will be heading as Telltale transitions to a full closure. I've reached out to my Telltale Games rep about this and haven't heard back yet on the full details.
