Star Wars Battlefront 2 Revisited

Star Wars Battlefront 2 is one of my all time favorite games being one of the titles I would burn hours away at while I was young. I still enjoy going back to play this classic game on PC with it actually holding up incredibly well considering all the years. The game impressively renders up to 4k there while retaining graphical quality and allowing for massive AI counts on the maps which were limited on consoles. It's just crazy seeing some of the maps that were large and sparse with combat have a rush of NPCs crowding the arena. Battlefront 2 is the first and third person shooter developed by the legendary Pandemic Studios and published by LucasArts.

The game released in 2005 to great acclaim and killed it for many years across Xbox, Playstation 2, Windows and was made backwards compatible on Xbox 360 later on. There was even a long worked towards third entry in the series that never saw the light of day. This was despite having quite a bit of its gameplay leaked online with rumors of a PC build featuring a 99% complete iteration. After this version was cancelled, EA was given the rights to Star Wars games from Disney with DICE rebooting the franchise in 2015.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 2005
The plot of the game followed the 501st which eventually became known as Vader's Fist. It was a soldier documentary type narrative that followed these good and then very bad troopers through the Clone Wars years. The story eventually ends moving towards the Original Trilogy after helping to build the gap in the Jedi Civil War. This was certainly a darker campaign and one I'll always remember and enjoy. The game also featured intense online multiplayer that was huge for its time among a number of modes. There was also Galactic Conquest where you fight over worlds in space or on the ground for galactic control.

This was followed by my most loved mode of instant action were you just fight on whatever world with a number of settings. You could battle on Mustafar or perhaps just jump into Mygeeto. The options were great allowing CTF or Conquest along with some fun type modes. This included having a Heroes vs Villains assault or hunt. Hunt was absolutely hilarious as you could be the Ewoks or Wampas and that was just something so fresh. Battlefront 2 is truly a classic game and will always be one that I go back to play whenever I can. There's decent mod support on the PC and the game visually holds up really well looking sharp. It's still one of the best shooters out there and even without nostalgia this game packed solid content. If you've never played it before, I heavily suggest revisiting the best Star Wars game.
