Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Revisited

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron was a remarkable game, it continued the story line that War setup and presented players with the world of Cybertron which is often only mentioned in most media. The general goal of the Autobots was to mostly tie up loose ends as they desperately flee a world left in destruction after all the turmoil from their civil war. The game presents a much more mature look at the universe while getting fancy with how the narrative is presented. At its core it's very much a strong follow-up bringing the perfect type of shooter and the best game that's ever been released that's based on the property.

Transformers: Fall of Cybertron released August 2012 on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. It was later re-released for the next generation of consoles on Xbox One and Playstation 4. The game received a number of DLC map packs and that content was later present within the new console versions of the title. The title was published by Activision and developed originally by High Moon Studios with the later versions being handled by FunLabs. It delivered on not only providing an excellent single player campaign, but also a robust multiplayer and a well rounded Escalation mode which was wave based.

The campaign was intense as things started right on The Ark, a vessel that was set to carry the Autobots off world. Things immediately go wrong as the Decepticons attempt to stop them. This provides an interesting take on a tutorial and the game eventually flashes back about a week earlier. This then has players dealing with various aspects across the world as they collect essential resources, tie up loose ends from the last game and prepare for an epic battle. The finale of the game is just packed with action and intensity featuring some very almost iconic moments. There were so many top tier conflicts that happened in such a short amount of time and it was awesome. It was a really well done campaign and something I'll always fondly remember.

The multiplayer is fantastic in this series, it was great in War and even more expanded here. There were multiple classes that each had their own strengths and combat was played over deathmatches or objective based modes. I sunk hours into this multiplayer as the maps were varied, the combat was intense and it just so well done. You could entirely customize your Transformers, unlock new things for custom classes and even prestige. The combat was just intense as players switch between vehicle or robot and it was so fun.

The final area of the game was Escalation which was wave based combat. It's essentially Horde where a group of characters work together to survive hardcore waves. Another solid addition to the game as you could work cooperatively to access areas, buy guns and get special bonuses to assist in going further. I was surprised and very happy with the dedication to providing so much depth in the mode. Fall of Cybertron was an incredible game that played great, still looks very authentic and was a full package. I'm not sure we'll ever get anything this stellar again game wise from the franchise, but at least this and War were nearly perfect offerings.
