The Samsung 990 Pro is the latest offering of PCEIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD storage from the company. As per usual they’re delivering top of the line performance and quality. I say that with some level of confidence as I have been using a number of their NVMe offerings on my PC configurations for several years now.

This latest offering does amp up the speeds a bit more while being the usual sort of design you’d expect. There are a few options for storage here, you get 1TB, 2TB or it’s also noted that 4TB is arriving at some point in 2023.

I was sent the 1TB option to take a look at which actually gives 931GB which is fairly good and high. I’ve been using it for video editing, games and general application with my new RTX 4090 i9 13900k build. It’s been more than adequate for my file usage, been rather happy with it.

Spec Details

Storage Size 1TB (Actually 931GB), 2TB or 4TB (2023 Release)
Speed Up to 7450mbs read/6900mbs write

As noted the writing speeds are rather great. You get up to 7450mbs for reading and up to 6900mbs for writing. It’s also backwards compatible with older motherboards, but obviously the speed will be impacted by a fair bit if you choose to do so. This can also work with the Playstation 5 console if you so choose, but you may want to grab the heatsink option in that particular circumstance.

Past that, you have Microsoft DirectStorage tech support which is a new process of faster game utilization. There’s honestly not a whole lot to go over, it’s a NVMe SSD. You slap it in, it runs very fast and adds great value to your PC configuration. Games, file editing and regular PC usage is great.
Samsung 990 Pro

The Conclusion

The Samsung 990 Pro delivers fast speeds, excellent performance and is the next step for NVMe storage solutions. That being that it improves upon previous models and offers something slightly better. It’s got a range of supported features and I can’t honestly think of anything else other than maybe RGB that it could add which really doesn’t make sense at all for this sort of thing.

It’s been great, it does what it’s advertised to do and as I mentioned, I’ve been more than happy with Samsung’s line of these sticks for many years so I can say they deliver on reliability. It’s great, you’ll be happy with it.
