The Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flight is a universal control system for Microsoft Flight Simulator whether you’re on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One through the Cloud or Windows PC platforms. My look at the peripheral was focused on the console perspective as that’s where I mostly engage with the game at the current time.
I have played the game across the platforms having reviewed it for Windows PC and then console the year after, so this is an experience that I’m quite passionate about. That in general is what this device is for, the more hardcore and or dedicated amongst the Flight Sim community.
If you’re more casual and still want this, it’s an awesome grab. I’m just stating that this one can be quite complex, and mostly just awesome to use. It really does enhance the flying experience, and it was such a treat to use with the game.
It’s got a ton of features, and almost too much customization to enjoy. You really can enhance your Flight Sim experience to the max with this, to fully personalize your journey across the skies. You might honestly be shocked by just how much you can tweak here.
The key elements to mention are that this has a dedicated trim wheel, a realistic yoke with integrated rudder controls and that’s right out of the box. You don’t really need any extras to fully personalize this experience, they go all out for it.
Past that, it also has all of the essential buttons from the Xbox share buttons to an audio jack for a headset and I could perhaps see some do Dark Souls runs with this which would be completely hilarious. I have also included my video review here, if you’d like to see how the device runs and I think it covers things quite well if you want a visual presentation of this in action.
Hardware Continued
This features a true to life 180 degree yoke handle that allows nice control. It might take a little to get used to, but it feels way better than using a standard controller. I’d say that the system overall has a good quality feel to it with the materials, and the healthy length of cords that are present. There’s a modular throttle quadrant that is attached. That features ten programmable buttons to make them whatever you want within the game.
You can also customize the throttle controls with different lever handles and that was really neat to have. There are also status alert indicators and this can be changed too. You can make it all sorts of LED colors, I went with lime green and you can even change how vibrant that lighting is which is so cool.
You can also use this little panel for adjusting smaller elements, getting firmware updates and to get a management display to track your time. It’s incredibly authentic! The controls are also all capturing featuring POV adjustments to alter your viewing angles. It might take a little to get used to everything this has, keep in mind that this comes with a quick start guide that can be rather helpful.
There are also integrated rudder controls right at your fingertips to swiftly adjust your craft. They really did seem to think of everything with this one. It’s one of the most niche, yet perfect peripherals I’ve ever used. It just gets things. It’s got a really neat adjustable spot for attaching it to a table and or desk too, that was a wonderful option.
I’m almost hard pressed to find something that they didn’t think of, Turtle Beach really went above and beyond to make this a perfect addition to your Flight Sim experience. It gives you full control over your experience, with just the right quantity of customizable choices to fine tune everything.
There are so many buttons everywhere to remap if you so choose, and it functions instantly with the game recognizing the device. It’s aesthetically pleasing, and just a complete pleasure to use. If you’re into the game, this is a must have addition. Words really can’t describe just how incredible the game is, and to have something like this that makes it feel more natural to handle, it’s just great.
I really felt like a bit of a pilot with this and that was such a cool experience. It’s interesting that we have options like this, that while niche in concept really can be something that elevate what we’re playing to a higher level. I’m sure you too will have a blast using this addition. That’s whether you’re more casual, or really into it. This will improve your connection to the game and many moments you can have soaring high in the skies.
The Turtle Beach VelocityOne Flight is an absolute must have addition to your Microsoft Flight Simulator experience. If you’re into the game; and it’s within your means, I do heavily suggest getting this. Just keep in mind that this is pricey, I’m just saying that if you’re looking at grabbing one that I suggest doing so. It’s a really great way to enjoy the game, perhaps the best way to do so.
I’ve used the mouse and keyboard, I’ve learned the controller options and this just makes simulation flying so much better. There are many ways to customize your setup using this device, and that is wonderful. From tuning the lights, to adjusting the knobs and then finally just having button options to handle what I need them to. This was a ton of fun to use, and to learn.
I was surprised by how much such a niche peripheral could enhance my time with what’s become a favorite game of mine. It’s really cool, the design is sleek and professional. It feels like it’s made of quality materials, and it really puts you into the virtual cockpit for a wild ride. Whether you’re taking to the skies in small planes, or massive ones. It’s a grand time, made better with this control option.
