Playmobil Ghostbusters P. Venkman Collection Figure Set 70172 Review

In celebration of the Ghostbusters 35th anniversary I was lucky to check out the latest sets from Playmobil. Part of this selection of sets, was this large scale figure based on Peter Venkman.

It’s an interesting idea to make this a special collector’s item in terms of rarity, but I don’t personally get the appeal of a larger figure design. That being said, if this is the sort of thing you’re interested in then you’ll be pleased with this release.

I have the smaller version for comparison and this is a blown up iteration on that. It’s definitely much larger in scale being 6 inches (15 cm) in height and in total contains six pieces. This character is in his traditional outfit and is equipped with a proton pack along with his walkie talkie. This is part of a scene from the film that you may recall, in the hotel. He also comes with a small piece of slime.

The version I received was part of a numbered limited edition run of 12,500 pieces so this might be a rather rare item if you’re interested in getting it. It’s a fine piece of Playmobil if this size is something that interests you. I wouldn’t imagine you’d do much playing with this one, but it’s definitely tough in design and quality. It would look really good on a shelf, being part of a special collection for either the figure sets or Ghostbusters in general.

The Conclusion

The Playmobil Ghostbusters P. Venkman Collection Figure Set 70172 is a fine addition to a collection, but very niche in what it presents. This isn’t necessarily something I’d go out for, just due to the size and that it doesn’t mix in with the rest of the Playmobil universe. That being said, I think this is excellent for collectors out there.

It’s a blown up version of the smaller figure and captures the unique style of Playmobil along with the character from the movie. It would be neat as part of a shelf collection. I didn’t find that they went too wild with this one in terms of extras, but the core content is there. You do get that proton pack, the walkie talkie and a well known character as this is my favorite of the group.
