With Playmobil having the Scooby-Doo licensing, it’s not surprising that they would create the iconic Mystery Machine. This is one seriously great, and fun to play with set. The vehicle is well presented, looking like its right from the movies or the show.
You also get three primary characters in their Playmobil design. That is Fred Jones, Daphne Blake and Velma Dinkley. You do miss out on Scoob and Shaggy though, have to get a separate package for those ones. That aside, we’re covering this as the particular package is presented.
You also get some accessories here that represent the team that’s present. Monitoring options for ghosts, detective gear and some food since you need to snack if you’re going to be on the road for a long time.
The Mystery Machine is very well done, it features a comfy interior for the crew and some basic options. This includes chairs and a light up station area. It’s neat that there’s actually a light in there, at the same time I was hoping for sounds or something on top of that. The light seems almost unnecessary to some degree since its very basic.
The interior also isn’t too fancy, but it’s a van so I thought it was realistic. It fits your characters, provides some storage and to me that’s perfectly fine. It has three access points to the back. The top can easily be removed, it has one seriously awesome side door and the back doors open too. The front has two seats as expected and the dashboard is well detailed. The vehicle rolls fine, and the visual aesthetic is just perfect.
When it comes to the Mystery Inc. characters that were included, I think they nailed the various designs. Everyone looks just like how I’d imagine them to in a Playmobil style. The accessories were alright, fine additions to give you something extra for the characters to interact with. It would have been nice to get some sort of opposing character, or the full team roster here. Assembly is relatively simple, it’s minimal and quick to put together which was nice.
The Playmobil Scooby-Doo Mystery Machine set 70286 is a great showcase of the legendary vehicle, and some of the well loved characters. This is a really excellent package that represents Scooby-Doo very well and it’s quite to play with. The vehicle handles well, has an interior that fits the crew comfortably and has some neat extra features to it.
I do question the need of the light, as that aspect seems somewhat to just be there. The additional accessories match the needs of the group well. I do however wish that either Shaggy and Scoob would have been included, or that the group would have had some sort of foe to go against. I think as a collectible item this is really perfect.
As a toy it is sturdy, rolls efficiently and has lots of fun little elements to it. The characters are all perfectly presented, in that Playmobil style and they look exactly how I imagined they would. That’s a good thing. I think they largely nailed this offering, a great option for fans.
