Gamescom 2016 Revisited

Gamescom 2016 brought a couple of announcements in the largest gaming event that follows E3 and it's basically Europe's equivalent to that North American event. It took place in Cologne, Germany towards the end of August as usual with over 340,000 people in attendance. The event acted as less of a place for large announcements and more about the fans with getting the latest games in their hands. The first big reveal from the show was the appearance of the mystical Half-Life 3.

This was however just a joke and not real in the slightest, players once again continue to wait as they always have for something that may never come. It was funny to see everyone get hyped up about it, but let's be real that this game will just show-up at some point since we can't believe any leaks at this point. With a similar case of a game having a delay, Final Fantasy XV got a slight push back of a couple months though not at all a big deal since the final product was solid. Injustice 2 got some reveals as well with Deadshot and Harley Quinn being shown off. This was building from the incredible hype behind the super underwhelming Suicide Squad movie.

Blizzard came in strong showcasing fan aspects of the already massive Overwatch. The game also brought with it a brand new map, Eichenwalde which I'm sure everyone that plays knows of at this point. On the Call of Duty front, Infinite Warfare was bringing the excitement by being bundled with Modern Warfare Remastered. That aside, we got a first glimpse of the new zombies mode called Zombies in Spaceland that gave us a group of wacky protagonists being featured in somewhat of a movie setup. This honestly seemed fun and the zombies was decent within the final release of the game.

EA brought some things to the show, but the Death Star dlc for Star Wars Battlefront was the highlight. Fans would be able to enjoy space battles to some degree and blow up the Death Star. This was a multi-staged setting that had players battle in space, defend a R2 unit and then possibly blow up the station. Microsoft also had a presence at the event bringing in their 2016 fall line-up and pushing the Xbox Play Anywhere program. With it came all the large title including Gears of War 4; ReCore, Sea of Thieves, Halo Wars 2 and others. There weren't a whole lot of new things that were revealed at the event with it mostly being DLC or continuing the approach of sharing the fall's hottest titles.
