E3 2016 Revisited

E3 2016 was an alright year for the event; but I felt it wasn't quite at the same level as the year before, so with that I'm going to take a look back at a summary of E3 in 2016. The first thing to note was that this was the first time that certain publishers were looking at hosting events outside of the event. The major player there was the EA Play event that took place in a venue right beside E3. This place was actually awesome being an air conditioned special hang out spot to play EA's latest games.

There we got a glimpse of Battlefield 1 and Titanfall 2 among their selection of new sports games. Battlefield 1 was epic as it brought the series back to its roots and Titanfall 2 was an improved Titanfall which excited me. I actually never ended up getting my hands on either around launch which is odd since I was so hyped for them. They also teased their future line-up of Star Wars games from the many, many studios they have working on titles with that content just being some weird artistic journey. It was less of a, wow look at all these cool future games and more of, alright they have people drawing pictures?

Next up Bethesda kicked it into high gear by giving us mods for Fallout 4/future Skyrim remastered and announcing a fresh take on Prey. Their conference was cool, had a nice atmosphere and some really awesome food. The Xbox conference followed the next day with their Xbox Play Anywhere, cross-play and reveals for their line-up of the year. Gears of War 4; Forza Horizon 3, Dead Rising 4 and Sea of Thieves were probably the highlights there just like on the show floor.

Playstation then killed it right after with an onslaught of games, marketing deals and their Playstation VR line-up. There were highlights such as God of War; Crash Bandicoot Remasters, Modern Warfare Remastered, Horizon Zero Dawn and so many others. They also really did a great job of revealing the final details for PSVR and held an awesome after party with a legendary donut wall which I will never forget.

When it came to Nintendo, they didn't have much aside from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and that was basically their whole show. It definitely created waves despite being a singular game and was just what they had to show. Warner Brothers brought some more LEGO Dimensions to display alongside LEGO Worlds with Injustice 2 being their main showcase. Some side games I enjoyed were Sniper Elite 4 doing well in their demo and Gwent, which was a surprise reveal. Telltale impressed me with their Batman series showing a different side of The Dark Knight whereas Agents of Mayhem was certainly something different of which I jumped out of the map on while no one was looking. It was a fine E3, but honestly not quite as great as the year prior for announcements and reveals.
