At the Calgary Expo 2022 there was a Robert Englund panel at the Main Stage where he went over his career. It was mostly focused on a Q&A style presentation. The start of the questions kick off with going over “V”. The marketing campaign behind that one was mysterious.
It started with just the letter V and then it became “Visitors Are Coming”. It was the first time that he was known as himself and not some sort of specific character he was dressed as. When it comes to the V reboot he loved the first season. He mentions that you owe it to the fans to have one cool action scene or a special scene each episode.
The second season was just a lot of the resistance repeating the plot over and over, you can’t do that. You have to deliver, that was his main criticism. He had heard rumors of them having him come back with his character Willy being homeless in that one.
They’d have to find him and bring him back into the fold. Moving past that show there was word of Sam Raimi directing a Deadpool like in humor movie of Freddy vs Jason vs Ash that was in the works after Freddy vs Jason but that never ended up happening. The cover in his mind would have had Ash headlocking Freddy and Jason.
When it comes to the Goldbergs it was the cameo point he thought would be a good fit and that’s also when he started just having fun with the character. He went on further to talk about some elements of A Nightmare on Elm Street. In part it was a neat mix as you’ve got this body and he’s got a brain.
There’s make-up all over and then the brain has cool puppeteer effects being added in. The original film had multiple endings, many of which included Johnny Depp. That original movie had no money and it was made with love, glue and scotch tape. When it comes to the sequence of the teen on the ceiling which is a classic scene in horror cinema, it was a rather complex scenario.
They used the camera man’s wife’s legs. They got this great blood webbed claw sequence with a bubble kiss of death but that had to be removed due to censorship. That being said, using that sequence allowed Wes to get others into the film that might have been too hardcore otherwise. Past that he mentioned Stranger Things 4 where he will have a new role in this 80’s era horror setup.
He just wanted to be an actor growing up and loved the theater, he loved film. He actually came up with the Lost Boys title which was a play on Peter Pan. He ended things by mentioning that he’s old to play Freddy Krueger again. He would love to do a cameo though. That about sums everything up, we have additional panel and other coverage from the show in our hub.
