At the Calgary Expo 2022 there was a Sean Astin panel at the Main Stage where he went over his career. It was mostly focused on a Q&A style presentation, with some rambling at times quite honestly. The first thing that happened as the crowd getting treated to the potatoes bit from Lord of the Rings.
At that point we got to hear a long tangent about the Notre Dame stadium being like a church and that it was an honor to be there during the filming of Rudy. Next things went onto chatting about Lord of the Rings and that back in the 2000’s he assumed it would be retold at a later time.
He’s just one Samwise, and the new trailer gives him chills. He noted that there’s no way that Amazon is going to pay a billion dollars to screw it up and it renews awareness to what he did prior. If it’s not good, they at least tried to reimagine things.
He’s inspired by Kevin Costner with the intense quiet camera stare. To let the story do the work. When it comes to Stranger Things the Bob death was a good hero’s death. It was good for Joyce, wanted the audience to root for him. Encino Man came up as the studio wanted him for the movie.
The head of the studio called him and you can’t say no to the head of the studio. The studio mentioned to not blow the deal up over money. With a moment in business, he wanted to be a director and the guy said no. Guy calls and wants to apologize later.
Mentioning that they insulted him with the first offer. They want to double the amount of money and want to be in business with him. Alongside that getting whatever input you want for your character, that was what he wanted and couldn’t say no to. That about sums everything up, we have additional panel and other coverage from the show in our hub.
