At the Calgary Expo 2023 there was a Robert Patrick panel at the BMO Center main stage where he went over his career. It was mostly focused on a Q&A style presentation, with lots of questions and some good answers along the way.
The start of the discussion went right into his role as the T-1000. He event did a live call on stage talking about how he was the very first motion capture person in film history. The audience was presented with such a strange moment with that Facetime moment, but we got to learn a bit about the knickknacks from an earlier history in the film industry. His early motion capture role required some painted squares, and in the fire scene he actually got a tad burnt.
Continuing with that character he believes that James Cameron wanted the T-1000 to have some emotions towards the end, as part of the malfunctioning scenes were cut presenting that and some of the moments in the film seem to lend way towards that being a possibility.
The presentation goes on to where he explains that John Doggett of the X-Files was his favorite role to play. Salt of the Earth good guy. A nice change from where he was consistently pushed into playing the role of a villain for most of his career. Going past that, he’d actually wanted to be John Connor if he wasn’t the T-1000.
To help craft villain characters he’d use motivation from being the eldest child where he had terrorized his siblings. To use your imagination to make others believe it. Past that, he mentioned he got the role of the T-1000 because Billy Idol got in a motorcycle accident with a Harley Davidson. He actually now owns that exact brand as a dealership which he was promoting. That about sums everything up, we have additional panel and other coverage from the show in our hub.
