At the Calgary Expo 2023 there was a Ryan Colt Levy panel at the BMO Center palomino where he went over his career. It was mostly focused on a Q&A style presentation, with lots of questions and some good answers along the way.
He initially starts off by going over his past, growing up in New York during the early 90’s. He toured and recorded in a band that eventually broke up, so he decided that he should go pursue acting. There were some voice acting heroes he highlighted such as Steve (Cowboy Bebop), Philip Seymour Hoffman, Daniel Day Lewis and Jim Carrey.
When going to voice a role he tries to see the voice characters as fully fledged characters and treats them as real people. His favorite scene was the first episode of Chainsaw Man as he was just developing the character. The first time he transforms at the end of the episode was very cathartic, and he got to lose it.
His favorite manga anime is Samurai Champloo, the style mixed with the characters feels more cohesive to him than Cowboy Bebop does. When it comes to voice acting advice he notes that it’s best to find any acting class and throw yourself into that particular space.
You have to be emotionally available and quick with choices in order to find the best path to success within the industry. That about sums everything up, we have additional panel and other coverage from the show in our hub.
