DOOM Eternal is the next step in this mighty revamped shooter franchise that aims to expand the environments and deliver more epic demon slaying action. While at E3 2019 I was roped into chatting during the Bethesda event while in a line-up and a number of drinks later I was playing DOOM Eternal.
That’s right, I ended up blasting away demons and exploring what this next entry has to offer. The environment and scale was the first thing I noticed, it definitely seems larger in the overall scope.
This demo was showcasing a part from one of the trailers where our mighty hero is walking through a large station. The regular humans are shocked as this majestic and massive monster of a person walks through collecting guns, as well as badges on his way through.
It’s a rather tense moment, and really helps nail home the point that this person is above all. Past that we get to explore some more mythical type areas, hopping along rocks and smashing in the faces of any unlucky demons that happen to be in the way. That’s the magic of the series, some areas to walk around and smash anything that decides to challenge your reign. It’s quite a lot of fun, gory and those executions are back. The classic ones where you rip jaws open, split demons and stab things up.
There’s a lot more movement involved here with the verticality elements and the world is wild to run around in. It can be a rather crazy time, and that works out for an interesting setup in this one. I was a bit lost with the additional moving mechanics at times, but it might just take a bit to get used to.
I still love what’s going on with this, and this one might be eternal for its rage. That’s all for DOOM Eternal, at least for now. Check out our E3 2019 hub for additional coverage from the event.
