I’m typically quite a fan of trivia based games, I’ve played quite a few over the years and while not everyone enjoys them I mostly do. This one is however most certainly a stick out just in terms of the disappointment I have towards it. This is a very slow, drawn out trivia game that features a number of bugs and issues.
It’s very straight forward being something designed for up to four local players. You can enjoy matches against the AI as well if you choose to go solo. You can play four or eight round matches or alternatively just do singular rounds of each type. It’s noted to have over eight hundred questions that are spread out over fifteen categories.
A decent amount perhaps, yet at the same time I came across many similar questions or the same ones after only a couple matches. On top of that, I had some questions that were blank with “template question” and “answer 1,2,3,4”. That was odd. The four round types you can do include true or false, multiple choice, memory and picture based.
This one is agonizingly painful to sit through. I know trivia games are typically slower to play, but wow this one is quite something else. The pacing is just the worst and it feels as though matches take forever. I thought it might be a cute, fun little trivia thing with robots but after just a couple rounds it was dragging.
It got worse as I pushed towards some of the Xbox Achievements for playing so many matches. I also had some problems where a match would just end while I was playing it, that was strange. It’s just a bad combo of slow pacing and some bugs that make what could be a charming little time into something rough to sit through.
The audio choices were nice, and I don’t mind the vibe considering it’s more of an indie effort. But alas, those issues just make it almost too rough. I also hated the questions where you couldn’t see answers after a few seconds as they felt just weird.
Droid Trivia may have some neat educational bits to it, but it’s painfully slow to sit through and has some bugs that really roughen up the experience. I went in with a positive mind thinking this would be a charming little trivia game, but ultimately I left very disappointed in it.
With so many options out there, this sadly isn’t a very good addition to your roster. I think the building blocks of a good follow-up are certainly here, but some fine tuning is needed. It’s such a basic game, I shouldn’t be having problems enjoying it.
