Dream Land returns with Kirby venturing alone or with up to four players. It’s a game where platforming is the focus, and dreams are delivered through a range of distinct environments. It’s a fairly straight forward experience, one that’s largely easy yet at the same time being rather varied in what it delivers.
I feel this one leans more towards the younger audience as it was rather easy going, though you may find some more difficulty once you get to those later levels. For me, any sort of deaths were largely caused by sloppy play on my end.
Moving past that, the story here follows Kirby and friends helping this crashed ship compile lost pieces. You’ll do this through worlds that are mostly comprised of about five stages including a boss level.
These do expand a bit stage wise as you progress though each was about thirty to forty-five minutes in length. You’ll be gathering items while doing these missions, and in turn can unlock bonus activities or challenges to take part in. So there is more to this, than just finishing up the normal story mode.
It’s very much your typical platforming game, but with the Kirby twist applied. That being the ability to gobble a wide range of enemies and bosses in order to take their abilities. You’ll be able to gain the option to say use a sword or perhaps become a ninja.
There are seriously a ton of options and that’s the case throughout the story. Each zone has its own sort of platforming style from extra elements such as sliding or even say swimming about. It’s varied, creative and it’s a neat sense of building upon the simplistic concepts that have been introduced to you in prior levels.
It all handles quite well, with a very straight forward presentation. The game does perform well at like 1080p 60fps when docked. It is quite jagged around the edges however when played on larger screens so keep that in mind.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe is an enjoyable, easy going platformer that does bring the benefit of four player coop action. There are a ton of abilities for Kirby to use while playing which is awesome. I was always surprised to see yet another unique ability pop up as I continued my adventure along. It’s got a straight forward story, with neat characters and some fun moments.
It did feel a bit too easy going though at times, I would have preferred a better challenge going through it in an initial run. That being said, this aspect does make it more accessible for the younger audience so I do keep that in mind. It’s vibrant, colorful and full of authentic Kirby moments for you to enjoy.
