The LEGO games are always an enjoyable experience and one of the most innovating entries in the series in terms of introducing new mechanics was the Harry Potter titles. All of the games have been remastered featuring improved lighting and a fresh 60fps making everything smooth. I would have once again liked to see the earlier Years 1-4 portion of the package be enhanced further as it does look rather dated at times.
It would have been really nice to see the two year discs combined similar to Star Wars: TCS as this has you choose either set of years from the main menu. It once again came across as a quick release as opposed to taking the time to really upgrade these games. It is a slightly better update than what released for just Playstation 4 in the past as this is Xbox One X enhanced.
Within this package are two separate games consisting of Harry Potter Years 1-4 and the Years 5-7 with each of the movies being integrated well into a seamless journey. There's just an absolute ton of things to do whether that's merely playing through the years of the games or spending far too many hours going around collecting items. Some are hidden, others are more readily available as you explore.
The world is also much more open in this LEGO entry allowing you to fully explore the area of Hogwarts through story progression eventually opening its halls. There's even a magical world outside of the school grounds that you'll begin to see more of. I found it to capture the spirit of the franchise well despite having the classic silent game type of comedy and it touched upon each of the biggest moments of Harry Potter. To clarify further, this is from the time prior to voice acting being included.
This remaster plays exactly the same as you remember it, but with a much smoother fluidity. It looks far better than before and the lighting does actually make a huge difference within the environments. The Xbox One X 4k enhancement does wonders, really improving the visuals. Other than that it's about the same experience as before that you expect from the various LEGO games. You go around moving through the series of levels that weave within the movies while solving puzzles along the way.
You can also collect a multitude of items such as LEGO studs; House Crest Pieces, Red Mail Boxes and saving some students in peril. There are of course other things to collect as you play, but you get the point that you can definitely sink hours into hitting the 100% mark. The game can also be completely played in coop with a drop-in/drop-out setup for those that might not have played any of the other titles before. Puzzles will often take advantage of using both players and while the AI is competent most of the time, I do suggest having another person play with you if possible. This is only for local play.
This LEGO Harry Potter Collection is a great package of LEGO games that are tied together and enhanced. There's an excellent quantity of gameplay present within the collection and you can play out the entire Harry Potter series here. At least, the core films as this doesn't include the Fantastic Beasts prequels.
It does somewhat lack in terms of remastered content missing out on an opportunity to combine the two games while providing minor tweaks to further enhance it. The 4k resolution and improved lighting does greatly improve the atmosphere in most situations. This is more of a collection for the diehard Harry Potter fans or those that missed out on it prior.
