It’s been a long wait, but the ultimate combination of Star Wars films within a LEGO format has arrived. It’s the type of release that celebrates the entirety of the franchise once more, while finally ending the drought of LEGO games we’ve faced over the period of its development.

As stated, this covers all nine episodes. You get the Prequels, The Original Trilogy and The Sequels combined into one ultra offering that’s just a pleasure to play. It hits the biggest moments and gives equal time across the series which is great as no matter which era you’re a fan of, there’s something there for you to enjoy.

This also means that they don’t necessarily fully cover all of the big moments, but considering it covers so much I’m quite fine with that. The core story retells the various episodes with the series’ signature comedy style that’s perfect for all ages and then offers the option to replay it with free play character engagement.

Past that, there are dozens of planets you’re unlocking which act as open world hubs to explore. Some planets have multiple locations as well, and it’s fun to really dive into these key locations from the franchise. If that’s not enough, there’s literal space around each of the planets to explore that also have activities. Blast asteroids, engage in space battles.

That’s the key aspect here, these planets are filled to the brim with side missions or other collectible based activities to take part in. Space mirrors that, so this game is just jam packed with things to do and ever so many hours of exciting gameplay to enjoy.

It really is quite a treat when it comes to content, you can almost spend too many hours venturing about in story or taking in the extra content. Now, when it comes to the story replaying I would have liked if they included the free play bits of the narrative as it’s just replaying the key missions so you miss out on a lot upon the revisit.

Gameplay

This is quite the evolution over the existing LEGO experience, a next generation one. The game looks just simply stunning and delivers a very polished experience the whole way through. The visuals really are top notch here pairing realism with the stylistic LEGO Bricks you’ve likely come to love. I’m being quite serious in noting that this really does raise the visual bar for the series and I’ll be expecting this quality going forward for sure.

You move around using various Minifigures to solve puzzles, explore and battle foes across the galaxy. There’s not just the regular characters though as ships are present for space exploration and battling. You can play the game alone, or in two player local coop and I’m still hoping for online coop to return someday. It’s very easy to enjoy the experience with another player, an aspect I feel is important since this is so family oriented.

There are also various upgrades for characters available alongside the usual secrets such as stud multipliers to gather. You will try to find minikits for extra unlocks among other special items to gather all the collectibles you can. When it comes to the characters, or well Minifigures there are over three hundred to collect with additional costume options.

The game looked particularly stunning on Xbox Series X with a dynamic 4k resolution at 60fps with HDR. Those lightsaber blades sure do shine, it was just gorgeous. I will note that I did have a progression block in episode two which required me to restart the game, but I wasn’t really too bothered by it since I was having so much fun. The second playthrough past that featured no issues, smooth gameplay the whole time through.

The Conclusion

LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is the next generation LEGO game we’ve been waiting for that overhauls the experience completely while telling the full story of the Star Wars franchise. It may not get every single bit, but that’s expected considering the size of the films.

Perhaps someday they’ll build upon this even further, as there seems to be a LEGO Star Wars game for every generation. When I first started playing this one I felt the exact same glee I did back in 2005 and then again for the Complete Saga. It’s magical what they’ve achieved here and I’m ever so thankful that they delivered on this one as it’s been so much fun to play.

They really did put a lot of heart into the game making sure the full scope of the series is adequately covered with the humor I expect. Such a fun game to play, and it really is perfect for all ages. Definitely a worthwhile time, enjoy the blue milk too!
