"Party Insanity!"

Multiplayer

This is a multiplayer party game that takes the general name and themes of the classic board game Monopoly while completely twisting the concept around. There are a few modes present, but it’s generally just the core gameplay loop that’s used across them. You’ll pick a scenario and then run about trying to get the most properties and or highest upgraded ones.

There’s a fairly easy going tutorial to learn this, one that’s perhaps easily skipable. From there you can choose to play the quote on quote, campaign offering that is essentially maps strung together with the main titular character taking a break. From there you get free for all and finally a teams option. I will note that the latter doesn’t have AI support for whatever reason, so bots are only present in free for all which is disappointing.

I would have appreciated their inclusion for the teams mode. On the flip side of that, you can play online multiplayer so that’s an option too. It’s most likely going to be enjoyed in a local setup I would imagine, so just keep those elements in mind. The free for all has everyone going against one another whereas teams splits you into groups. You can adjust settings, and have up to six players going at it if you so choose.

Gameplay

It’s a bit of a sucking game where you get this vacuum that will allow you to either suck in the various items you need or to blow on stuff to improve it. You can gather cash or other resources this way and then unleash them upon the various unsuspecting properties or other players that are playing. The resources you’ve spent will help to build properties whereas if you use a power up of say a bulldozer, you’ll be able to smash houses.

Other abilities include things such as sending someone to jail briefly or creating a blockade. This type of item randomly appears across maps and this aspect alongside others can be adjusted within the pre-match settings. There are also twenty unique characters to choose from and a wide range of maps that are actually quite distinct aesthetically.

Everything from beaches to fall locales and there is a healthy chunk of them present which is great. The visuals are vibrant, everything runs smooth and the it’s ever so frantic. I actually felt tired at times playing because so much was going, so keep in mind that it might come across as overwhelming depending on the type of players engaging with it.

The Conclusion

Monopoly Madness provides frantic, fun family action backed by a healthy selection of content and multiple ways to play with others. You can enjoy multiplayer online or locally, just keep in mind the limitations for team play. I will also mention that the core gameplay loop is fairly repetitive, it’s the good quantity of maps and features in terms of items you gather that does keep it fresh over time.

It can feel tiring and while fun I do feel it’s fairly basic in terms of what it provides. Still, it can be an enjoyable time that does keep your excitement going and the insanity at a maximum. It lives up to the name of madness because it is wild. If you’re expecting regular Monopoly, that won’t be present within this game.
