I am a huge fan of the Gears of War franchise and getting the chance to read this Omnibus to expand the lore and my personal knowledge of the universe was great. The Gear of War Omnibus Volume 1 is a collection of the first thirteen comics of the DC comic series. Let me make one thing clear, the Omnibus is not new content, just the old comics put together in an easy to handle package.
The collection follows our franchise hero Marcus Fenix, and Delta Squad in stories take place between the first and second games in the franchise. This helps to explain some questions that people had like how Dizzy survived his encounter with Skorge. It also helps explain some of the lesser known characters that felt like they didn’t have a place in the games, such as Barrick, Alex Brand and Jace
The Gears of War Omnibus Volume 1 book is an excellent addition to the franchise for fans of the games. I really don't believe that regular folks will be too interested in what this has to offer. Fans will certainly love it. There are some great pictures showcased from the game, an expansion of thoughts and funny comments from the characters.
They have the entire main cast present, with little quips here or there throughout. This is written in a distinct color style so that you can tell them apart. The most present commentary is from Chloe, followed by Max. They were enjoyable to read and it helped further cement the individual individuals present in the series. There's a good quality to the book, it looks warn and right from the universe.
The Gears of War Omnibus volume 1 fits into the series and I would classify it as part of the lore. Well done illustrations and beautifully colored frames from the legendary hands of Liam Roger Sharp (Wonder Woman) and Simon Bisley (Hellblazer). The story telling is marvelous and is done very well, however the pacing feels a bit off like there is some frames missing or it’s left up to the reader to figure things out, not sure if elements were cut or not.
Gears of War Omnibus Vol. 1 is a high action, hard hitting, quick witted collection of comics that help fill the gap between Gears 1 and 2. Building up some character background and helping expand the lore. It contains a wealth of issues that bridge together the games and add additional context for fans of the franchise. This collection is a must have for die hard Gears fans. The book is designed for a mature audience just like the games.
