Things are changing for Gears of War multiplayer as the fifth main entry will be mixing up many elements of what’s been introduced over the years. This will be surprising to many, and it shows a continued sign towards multiplayer shifting in a new direction. To start, there will be no season pass included in any version of the game.
In general, there will be no season pass at all. All DLC maps will be included for free and available for matchmaking or private play. This is noted to include any post launch maps that arrive for the game’s competitive or casual play.
Gears 5 will also have no Gear Packs. Instead, all content can be earned through a new Tour of Duty system. This system will have special daily challenges and seasonal medals to earn customization content. If there are store purchases, they are all direct with no RNG. You always know exactly what you’re buying when it comes to extra content.
A similar style to what was available in Gears of War 3, and tested in the late game of Gears of War 4. For context, Gear Packs are loot crates which randomly grant cards. The cards are for emblems, weapons, characters and so forth for the multiplayer elements of play in Gears of War 4. You’ll get what’s called Supply Drops in Gears 5, every minute you play will contribute to unlocking these drop cards.
If you get a duplicate, it’ll automatically turn into Scrap which is then used for crafting. You cannot purchase these items with real world money. New optional purchases are called “Boost”. This includes double multiplayer XP, double character XP for Escape or Horde and double speed supply drop progression. That’s all the details for now, read about the enhancement below or the franchise hub for additional coverage.
