Playmobil Ghostbusters Ecto-1 Set 9220 Review

Playmobil launches one of its first-ever licensed entertainment lines with six different playsets based on the classic 1984 Ghostbusters movie. The centerpiece of the franchise, the Ecto-1, has been dutifully recreated for a new generation of fans and collectors. The Ecto-1 has working roof lights and movie faithful siren sounds. It comes with two Ghostbusters with accessories and removable slime appliques that can be applied safely to almost any surface.

Design
The most noticeable trait of the Ecto-1 is its size. It is over twelve inches long allowing for its high level of detail. There are many pieces to the set, although it was assembled in about fifteen minutes. Help from an adult would be recommended. The removable roof gives access to the interior that has seating for four Ghostbusters and stowage for four proton packs. The rear hatch has a special compartment to hold the ghost trap neatly. The Ghostbuster logos on the front doors and rear hatch come pre-painted on the model so there are no decal lines around them making them look perfect.

Standout details from the decal sheet are the New York state “ECTO-1” vanity plates and the PKE meter controls. More notable details on the exterior are the transparent plastic headlights and bullet taillights and a cast dual exhaust on the undercarriage. The roof unit has two buttons, one controls the lights, while the other controls the siren. The siren has the unmistakable sound of the authentic Ecto-1. Both lights and sound have an auto shutoff feature. The Ecto-1 comes with Ghostbusters Zeddemore and Dana Barret. Each has a custom nametag on their uniforms, a proton pack with detachable proton stream, a ghost trap and a PKE meter.

It was expected that the figures would fall forward with the proton stream attached unless supported, but the Ghostbusters are surprisingly not top heavy with the with the proton stream extended in front of them. The Ecto-1 also comes with removable silicon splatters that can be placed and replaced anywhere on the vehicle, or just about any other surface for every new adventure.

The Conclusion

The Ghostbusters line from Playmobil will surely be a hit with fans and collectors. The movie faithful lights and sounds make the Ecto-1 spring to life. It has an incredible amount of detail inside and out making for engaging enjoyment for all ages. Just as the Ecto-1 was the centerpiece of the movie franchise, Playmobil’s Ecto-1 is the centerpiece for their Ghostbuster line. Playmobil’s Ecto-1 is a must-have for fans and collectors of Ghostbusters.
